All the Bright Places

Review

Author: Jennifer Niven

Published in: 2015

Genre: Young Adult Fiction

This book is one of those which stay with you for a long time. It’s a story about a girl who is having difficulties coping with a past tragedy and a boy who is battling with bipolar disorder. A school project brings them together and they give a chance to their friendship later turning into love. This book explores the concept of life and death through these two struggling teenagers, “It is about a girl who learns to live from a boy who wants to die”- as the cover says.

It is a poetic piece written with dual perspectives, having the perfect balance of emotions and romance. This one definitely would keep you hooked up till the end.

This book taught me that life is too short to wait. Make with whatever time you have, with all your loved ones and life doesn’t end with someone’s death. The thought of ‘This wouldn’t have happened if’ is a way of tackling grief but it is the wrong way. It only hinders you, your progression in life. Think the other way that ‘they wouldn’t be able to see us in this devastated state’. Moreover, judgment is such a cruel act; you never know what it is making the victim go through. If you want a good cry, this one is for you.

My favorite quote from this one is:

“You are all the colors in one, at full brightness.”
